Coming home

All three of us were very keen to get home. I don't like hospitals at the best of times, ok so there is no best time to like a hospital! The midwives were very kind and friendly but we wanted to take our son home, introduce our cat (Tigger) to Angus. She's a shy little cat and we wondered what she would make of him. It turned out she didn't really bother and acted like he had always been here. We were told we could go but had to come back in the morning for his check and hearing test. We live about a 3 minute drive from the hospital but got stuck in rush hour traffic as it was 5pm. On arriving home we were greeted by my best friend Ceri and her three boys, Cormac, Noah and Lewis. I had promised Ceri she could have first hug and indeed she did. We all looked admiringly at Angus, his tiny little fingers which were so long, his little nose and his cute little mouth. A short while later Ceri's husband, Alan (Andy's best friend) came to claim a hug from Angus. Photos were taken that we will always treasure. I changed Angus's first dirty nappy with the help of Ceri. We opened presents from Auntie Ceri and Uncle Alan and chatted about how lovely his name was and how he looked like Andy. They all left and we decided to get some dinner. We had only had half a banana and two slices of toast! Andy went to the chip shop as I went to the living room where I fed Angus properly for the first time. He fed so well and I smiled with joy as I saw his little cheeks moving as he sucked. He seemed so content. Auntie Kat and Nathan came round with more presents and chocolates for mummy. Kat held Angus while we ate dinner and we chatted about the labour, I'm not ashamed to admit I bragged a little at how easy I had found it! Although painful at the time I believe I was in the right mindset thought wise that I was able to block out a lot of the pain. We continued to chat and admire Angus till Kat and Nathan went home. We decided it was time for bed, we had all had a long day. Angus was a content little boy and only woke a couple times for feeds, but I woke up many more times to peep at him and admire my greatest achievement in life.
