First day at home

2011 February 09

We somehow slipped into a wee routine already, waking up, feeding him and getting him dressed. We sat it bed just looking at him, it felt like we spent hours looking at him but now it feels like those hours weren't enough. We called the registry office to make an appointment to register Angus and managed to get one for 2.15pm that day! We got sorted out for the day and I fed Angus before we needed to go to the hospital for his appointment. We got him all wrapped up in his car seat, but we were running a tad late. I had no idea that it takes so long to leave the house with a little person! On arriving at the hospitals Angus got many admirers and the midwives I'd seen the previous day had said how well I'd done and how quick it was for a first labour. 9 hours 8 minutes seemed like forever to me! He got his hearing check, where they put big ear muff type things on him he looked so funny! Andy took a picture and I told him that it was a wee shame and Angus wouldn't thank him for it when he was older. I'm so glad he took that picture now. Angus's right ear was fine but we were referred to come back in just over a week for his left ear. She told us not to worry that because he had a lot of mucus it was common. After the hospital we went back home for lunch, Andy made my lunch and I fed Angus. I don't remember what we talked about but now I wish we did. I know we talked of plans we had as a family but it all seems so distant now. I spent ages holding Angus but made time for daddy cuddles, they seemed to bond so naturally from the moment Andy first held him at the hospital. Andy soothed Angus if he got a little upset as easily as I could soothe him. But to be honest that wasn't a surprise, while pregnant with Angus I'd get a lot of movement when Andy spoke and even more so when Andy would place his hand on the bump! It was like he knew that was his daddy. We went to register Angus, again running a bit late. You can't predict when a baby will need fed, it's a case of supply and demand! The woman wasn't so impressed we were late but we didn't really care. We filled in all the paper work and I signed it, all officially and everything. Angus Andrew Wu became an official Scottish citizen on the 9th February 2011 at about 2.40pm. After this we popped along the road to the office Andy and Alan own so that Gema and Jamie could meet Angus. Uncle Alan was keen for a wee hold (I've never seen Alan so willing to leave his computer!) We talked for a short while and got a family photo taken, thank god we did. We decided that Angus was so small we best go get some tiny baby clothes. We took him on his first shopping trip and daddy got to park in the parent and child space with a big grin! We sat in the car park and called Gran (Andy's mum) after a 10/15 minute conversation Angus decided he'd had enough and wanted to go shopping! We got him some tiny baby clothes which were still too big. He also decided now would be a good time to throw up some mucus! This wasn't the first time he had done so. He projectile vomited on daddy at the hospital a few hours after he was born and again the Tuesday night when I was having a bath. I remember Andy coming up saying he'd been sick and some how got it all over the Moses basket sheets. We got the clothes, swung by the flower shop to pick up some lovely flowers for Andy's mum and then took our little boy home again.
